Controlling the system-level permissions

Who can use this feature?

Only the Application Owner role can use this feature.

What is it?

Users can only access the ITONICS application if they have a global user role assigned. Once you have created user roles, you can start defining the entity-specific permissions and the system-level permissions.

The system-level permissions relate to functionalities that are not tied to a specific entity. This includes the view permissions for the ITONICS core modules: Explorer, Tag Cloud, Network Graph, Newsletter, Signals Feed, and Dashboard. Furthermore, the permissions for the modules Scout and Roadmap are handled from the system-level permission scheme.

How does it work?

Go to the Settings Wheel > Entity Configuration > Entity Configuration and click the Permission Configuration tab. After having created your own user roles (or using the standard ITONICS roles), you can now edit the permissions of the different components by navigating to the specific component tab and checking/unchecking the boxes for the different user roles.

All user roles are listed in the columns. The respective permissions to be granted can be found in the rows. After unchecking/checking the permissions, hit save permissions and the changes will come directly into effect across the whole platform.

After setting the general system-level permissions, you should continue with checking the entity-specific permissions.

Please also note that besides the global permission scheme, the ITONICS system also offers options for local permissions, e.g., permissions that can be granted just to specific users or content elements.

Global role and permission controls

> System- and entity-level

Local permission controls

> Content element- and user-specific
