Providing the system interface in different languages

What is it?

If you are operating your application with team members coming from different regions, it might make sense to ease their understanding by providing the system interface in their language.

ITONICS provides by default the display in three different languages: English, German, and French. If activated, users can adjust their language preferences in their user profiles. If you want to provide another language, please talk to your Customer Success Manager.

How does it work?

If you are using the default language options (English, German, French) provided by ITONICS, the general modules and notifications will be displayed according to the language chosen by the user.

However, if you are creating your entities, attributes, and email templates, you need to make sure that you include the respective translations to the other languages.

For adding the respective translations, you will find different options.

Providing translations for entity and attribute names

To provide the translations for entity and attribute names as well as tooltips and help texts, you need to navigate to the pen icon of an entity from the Settings Wheel > Entity Configuration > Entity Configuration.

If different languages are available, you will find another tab "Translate" inside the entity configuration of a certain entity from which you can translate the name of the entity to the respective language.

If you want to provide a translation for an attribute, please navigate to the Field Configuration and find the world ball icon in the row of an attribute. After clicking it, you will be able to translate the name of the attribute, the help text, and/or the tooltip.

If you click on the "Range Info" tab, you will find the interface for providing the translations of the values of the ratings.

Providing translations for tabs

If you organize the information intake by placing different attributes in different tabs, you can translate the tab names from the respective create/edit form and view configuration.

Once entered the respective form via the Settings Wheel > Entity Configuration > Entity Configuration and select the pen icon of the respective entity, click on the pen icon next to a tab's name. A pop-up will open from which you can place the different translations.

Providing translations for email templates

If you have created your own email templates, you will find the translation interface via the Settings Wheel > System Administration > Email Templates. Find the respective email template and click on the pen icon. In the opening interface, you will see on tab the different tabs for providing the email template in the respective language.

Please note that the translation options affect the system interface. Users can still decide on which language they choose to enter content. If you provide too many language options, it might be hard to compare and make sense of content being put in different languages.

It is generally recommended to decide on one standard language for content intake and system operation.
